my cat gets them too often . the first itme I had to rush him to the hospital he was in a coma and near death. I was bawling and telling the people that I had no idea what was wrong with him and the doc's wife had the nerve to tell me I ought to be ashamed letting it get this bad. I started bawling again. she made me feel so rotten Doc rushed us in the back and felt his bladder and said : live or die?" I said live. he grabs him and rushed him to the operating table and catheritized him and there was pure blood coming out. I cried some more and my son cried too. he was the last to see the cat that night. said he was stumbling and didn;t tell me. he didn;t know what was wrong. thought "river" was just sleepy. poor my son anyway 4 days and $500 later he came home and we were told to only feed him cat food that was less than 8% ash content. ever heard of that? It is only labeled on some cat food! I never knew. ash is what is left over after the body burns what it needs from the food .. I think . he said the white slimey stuff in the bottom of the litterbox is ash. who knew??!! anyway that is my tale . I can't really afford the special food so when he seems to be getting it again I switch on him. anyone know any trick to use. Like for humans it is usually cranberry juice and lots of water.

Be sure to have plenty of water available, make sure they are spayed, neutered, etc. Then be sure to give the the urinary tract food. The other thing about cats is when they get older, they need the senior food. My boy and 2 of the girls are 11 years old. The other 2 are under 3.

Oh one more thing, if you can't afford to use the food daily, then mix it up with the regular stuff, it will go further and you won't have to keep switching. That's what we have done.

great thanks. I buy it when I can but I didn't know I could mix it .. I try to check the "ash content" on the label . the doc said not to have it too high. he has been fixed and he is about 4 or 5 human years old. gosh he is aging fast.. like me! thanks again!
