I know this works however I'm not sure about doing it around chickens.If you have snakes put molth balls out the smell will drive them away or out of where they was.like you know there is one living near a chicken pen.throw them out there.I was told chicken wouldn't eat them but i never suggest something all the way with out warning i haven't done it near my chickens.
