Spring cleaning in the kitchen is much the same as the other rooms in the house, except you will want to clean the oven, refrigerator, cabinets and drawers.
Line your drawers and cabinets with paper, vinyl or cloth. The new plastic, textured liners from Rubbermaid are nice except for one minor drawback...the dishes do not move around on this stuff and we very short people can't slide the glasses to the back of the upper shelves! Really a small price to pay for such neat, lovely cabinets!
Get rid of all that "stuff" you have accumulated over the years. Get rid of everything you haven't used in 2 years. The exception is any specialty food preparation item such as a spring form pan, etc. These items are costly, and you may not use them very often.
When you clean the oven, the commercial oven cleaners usually come with sufficient directions. Just remember to line your floor around and under the stove with newspaper to catch drips.
Do you really need all those drawers for linens? If not, then consider using a drawer or two to store dry vegetables such as potatoes or onions.
Do you have to have a junk drawer? Then if so, could it be relocated to the garage or basement?
Not enough storage space? There are many inexpensive ways to add space. The best way is to add shelves in that space over the refrigerator.
Clean your refrigerator with mild soapy, warm water. Remove all shelves and baskets. Wash them and rinse in a bleach solution of 1 gallon water and 4 teaspoons household bleach. Wipe down the insides of the clean refrigerator with the bleach solution, too. Allow to air dry, replace food.
